On Monday, I found a little boy on www.adoptuskids.org that we were interested in getting more information. I was especially excited because he is in Georgia! His photolisting was put up on the national website on Thursday while we were out of town. He was then placed on the Georgia website on Sunday. I emailed my Case Worker on Sunday but of course, she doesn't work on Mondays. She followed up with me on Tuesday to tell me that she had emailed and called his Case Worker and waiting on a response back. Well on Wednesday, she found out that his Case Worker thought they had found a family but would still read our home study. So apparently, our home study was sent out to her on Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday around 2 p.m. I saw that his status had moved to "Inactive-placement pending" on AdoptUsKids. While that is great for him and all, I got really upset. First, I'm extremely hormonal this week...one can tell by the look on my face! Secondly, we have been told that we can only consider Georgia kids at this point but we can't even get our info submitted fast enough to be considered! Why are Georgia kids showing up on National website first before our state website when state boundaries appear to be issues? Why did my Case Worker not tell me about him before his was posted on the websites because I know she has access to information on children before the general public and on the surface, he matched our criteria?
Well, I called my Case Worker. Drum roll please...she is on vacation until April 16th yet she never mentioned that to me! I mean a lot can happen in a week as obvious in this situation. In her email to me on Wednesday, she would let me know as soon as she received as response from his Case Worker. Instead, I have to get my information from a national website! I was so mad that I was crying. So I called the Regional Adoption Coordinator after I collected myself. I had questions that needed to be answered and I couldn't wait a week!
I was SUPER nice and was very proud of myself. She in return was SUPER nice and very informative without me having to bombard her with questions! While she could not offer me any insight on this particular situation, she did talk to me in extent about what type of characteristics we are interested in a child. Finally, she got around to telling me that I can get a copy of my home study and send it out myself when I find children that we are interest in and that we can look at kids that are out of state! Yahoo! That was a prayer answered! Best thing, is that she offered all that information without me having to press her for it!
Unfortunately for us (but of course, great for the kids), a couple of out-of-state situations I have really had my eye on have already found placements. So, we are kind of back at square one but at least I can have more control over our search and not be so dependent on our part-time Case Worker!
So now I have to wait for my Case Worker to get back in town and so she can give me a copy of our home study!

That is great news Shana!!!
ReplyDeleteFinally, someone with some sense. I would follow it up with an email to that same person so you can get it into writing that she stated you can get your study. (how is that for a run on sentence?)
