The last couple of days, I have found myself sympathizing with families that have had to deal with DFCS on the other end of things. I know there are a ton of people that have had their children taken away for justifiable causes. And trust me, this card carrying Republican isn't talking about the people that are getting entitlements they don't deserve. I'm speaking of the many undeserving people that have had to step into the ring and defend themselves against DFCS.
I'm so frustrated that I can't even verbalize my emotions with words. I'm educated, have "connections" and the financial resources I need to fight this battle. I've always been able to command respect through proper attire, professional verbal and written skills, good interpersonal skills...but not with DFCS. I've never been exposed to any thing quite like DFCS. It is their game where they make their own rules and are determined to win.
If I'm frustrated and overwhelmed, then I can't imagine how the poor and uneducated feel. The people that don't know where to turn for help. The people that don't know their rights. The people that are use to having doors shut in their faces throughout life. I can see where the state could easily take advantage of those less fortunate.
Recently, I met a woman down in the ghetto through work that was in serious need of legal counsel. She said that she had called several attorney's offices in Chattanooga but no one seemed to want to help here. She couldn't figure out why no one wanted to help her because she knew (as did I ) that she had a huge case on her hands. To be frank, the woman was very poor and did not communicate well when she spoke. It took a lot of probing and reiterating from me to make sure that I understood her story. Sadly, her child will literally bear scars for a lifetime because she has a mother that doesn't have the resources or the knowledge how to fight for what is right.
For me, I keep thinking of David and Goliath. I pray that while I might be small, that I will be mighty and win this fight as I know there are some kids somewhere out there that are depending on me on to bring them home.
