Oh what the heck! I was going to wait until Tuesday at noon to send this email but why wait...haven't we been waiting long enough? Billy thinks that I'm being too aggressive but you have to get DFCS' attention some how don't you? I promise, the next time I talk to them they will remember our name!
So this is what I sent to good ole Sonny boy (also sent it to Congressman Nathan Deal):
Govenor Perdue,
Currently, my husband and I are trying to become foster parents in Whitfield County. Actually, we are going the foster to adopt route hoping that we will eventually get to adopt the children that are placed with us. We are open to adopting special needs children from infants up to age 12 and a sibling group up to 3 kids.
We have had difficulty working with our local DFCS. They have been slow and dropped the ball on everything to date. We have been waiting since December 1, 2008 for our home study to be reviewed and approved. We have sent emails to directors to be telephoned a couple days later by part-time subordinates. They cannot tell us when we can expect our home study to be reviewed. Everything on our end is completed but DFCS just needs to sit down and devote some time to reviewing our home study so that it can ultimately be approved or denied.
Per www.ourturnnow.com, there are 250 children at any given point in time available for adoption in the state of Georgia. It infuriates us that there are so many children in limbo in "the system" yet the people at DFCS have no sense of urgency when it comes to simply reviewing a prospective adoptive parent's home study.
Please help us!
Sincerely,
Billy & Shana
